The Ones That Got Away

Sometimes the best photographs are the ones we didn’t take.

I remember being captivated by the blue hour at a beach after the sun dropped below the horizon. I just sat there, not bothering with my camera. The waves lapping at the shore, the light in the sky shifting hues until the stars came out — it was one of the most peaceful moments forever etched in my memory.

When travelling with family, I sometimes want to wander, explore more, catch the right light, wait for the decisive moment — but there are matters more pressing than photography. Holding someone’s hand always beats holding a camera.

We sometimes let things get away because something else is more meaningful to us.
