Trees and Life on an Island

Island life.

There are trees, and there are trees by the sea.

Swept and hardened by the salty wind. Anchored to the shore.

Anchors of fishermen and their livelihood.

A resting place above the tide, for boats and for weary eyes, like a bent coconut tree.

Survival is life, like a little tree growing on a crag, singing with the wind an ode, calling to its kin across the sea.

At the end of the day, the trees guard the island, watching the sea.

Like the islanders, getting ready for the next day.
