We all have archives of travel photos; they delight us and make us enjoy the experience of travelling to these places once again.
I’m as avid a snapshooter as the next tourist. But one thing I notice — among the photos of castles, churches, attractions, historical places, phone booths and unusual fire hydrants — are flowers. I don’t know why I took them, a marker perhaps?
As I look at them, it brings back memories, not only of the places but more so the people I was with when I took them. Maybe because a snap of a famous bridge will look like anyone else’s, while the flower is part of the whole experience that is unique and personal.
This tulip was blooming just outside the walls of Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. A memorable springtime trip with family.
This lotus flower was by the entrance to the Fushimi Inari Shrine near Kyoto. On a fun trip with friends.
This rose and bud were at the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney, one lovely afternoon when I met up with a friend who has moved to Australia and he brought his young daughter along.
Water lily at the Singapore ArtScience Museum, on a weekend when family met in Singapore from different places.
An orange rose at the Rockefeller Center in New York, on a rainy afternoon in Manhattan with family.
A bloom near Mt. Fuji, at Lake Kawaguchi near Tokyo, with friends.
By the front door of an aunt’s house in Quincy, MA., always a warm welcoming place.
These may look like ordinary flowers. But to me they have the singular ability to conjure beautiful memories.
This was supposed to be my entry to the LAPC last week, but a week too late. 🙂
You’re right. Flowers make a place special, and bring it to life. These are lovely.

So many beautiful and colorful flowers you show us here. And I think you’re right in your thoughts that I agree with.
I myself has quite a lot of memories from flowers that was taken from different places around the world and also from here in Malta. Our archives are valuable and often personal and even though it is getting full of images I’ll keep it from when I first started shooting in year 2011.
Wish you a great weekend from Sunny Malta 🌞

I take many photos of flowers just along the street or in the public gardens here in Pittsburgh. I think that tomorrow they may be gone. And then when I look at them I remember where it was. Your photos are beautiful.
