Grills and chimes.
Decorative wrought iron grills blend aesthetics with practicality. Introduced by the Spanish, they allow windows to be opened for ventilation while providing security.
Chimes were the motion detectors and alarms of earlier days. They are “activated” by touch or air movement. Originating in Asia, they double as good luck charms and are tuned to give a pleasant, musical sound that can be relaxing.
Like today’s electronic and web-connected security systems, they are not foolproof and can be hacked. But at least they add a layer of protection, if not peace of mind, something that we all desire.
Rather more attractive than a firewall…..
