
This juvenile black-crowned night heron is in its “hunched resting position.” It looked quite sleepy, yet it was early in the day.
If it was a juvenile human, one might say perhaps it was partying late last night. But night herons do ambush prey at night or early morning. They take a rest during the day. So I guess this night heron was just about to call it a day.
Its a nice photo. I’ve seen herons hunkering down like this, but hadn’t wondered why.
