The Moon is Shy Tonight

Not quite as dazzling as Juliet might have been, when Romeo first saw her and instantly fell in love, declaring:

O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear;
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!*

But there is a place for mystery. Romeo and Juliet’s love shone secretly in the dark.

Shyness is a flirting eye’s disguise.

~ William Shakespeare, “Romeo and Juliet”
