Locally called “Martinez,” the Crested Myna (Acridotheres cristatellus) can mimic human speech (as in this video) but is not a parrot. It, however, snubbed me when I tried talking to it.

It it is a popular cage bird, and this pair may have been accidentally released. They roam around the neighborhood but have a favorite perch to watch people from above, specifically towards sundown.

The Crested Myna gets its name from the crest on its front forehead; it is jet-black with a white wing patch. It can be found in China, Taiwan, and some parts of Southeast Asia.
We saw these clever birds all over South Asia. I did notice they seemed to have a wide variety of calls but didn’t realize they could mimic your voice!

Thanks, Lisa. Maybe one day you’ll encounter one. Though the beauty and variety of birds in your area is quite astonishing.

Yes, we are quite lucky! I need to win the lottery so I can travel the world to see as many different birds on this planet. LOL! 🙂
