Distracted by White-Collared Kingfisher

Distracted driving.

I was about to hit my drive when I noticed this white-collared kingfisher (local name: Tikarol) watching me.

It didn’t go away even when I switched my driver for the camera. This kingfisher is getting too comfortable with humans, I think. So who’s distracting who?

Just glad to be be able to hit the fairways again after almost a year. And the presence of fine-feathered friends makes it more enjoyable.ย

A friend asked me why I bring a camera to the golf course. “Are you there for golf or bird-watching?”

I replied that if I’m not playing well, then it’s for bird-watching — at least I can go home with a “birdie.” ๐Ÿ™‚

I came across the Bird Weekly Challenge by Our Eyes Open, inviting “anyone who receives joy from watching & photographing birds.” I certainly do, falling squarely in the “novice nature lovers who happen to photograph birds” category.

This week’s theme is “Birds that eat fish as their primary diet.” I guess “kingfisher” qualifies.

Though I understand it also feeds on crabs, shrimps and even lizards, I have long stopped judging animals (and people) based on their diet.

But I digress.

May you have a great week ahead, distracted or otherwise! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. What a stunning looking bird! I once saw an interview with Johnny Mathis and he was a golfer too. He said that then his golf game was going badly he would put down his club and sing. Then the would tell himself he was still a good singer and go back to his golf game.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    • Thanks! Yes they can be very elusive, really know how to hide in the trees, too! I guess this one was cool having fun watching me having a bad game! ๐Ÿ˜

  2. Welcome to Bird Weekly! Kingfishers certainly fit in this theme and what a great photo. Glad you backed off your drive to capture this wonderful bird. I love the fact that you take your camera to the golf course. Great pun with the “birdies”. We watched The Players yesterday. I wanted to go, but I have tendonitis and walking distances isn’t an option. We enjoy sitting on 17 just like most folks, but I was sitting in my recliner out of the heat. Almost as good! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you, Lisa, for taking the time to leave a comment. Itโ€™s a pleasure joining your bird weekly challenge and thank you for hosting it and inspiring others with your love of birds.
Glad to know youโ€™re a golf follower yourself. It must be a thrill soaking in the atmosphere of The Players!
Take care and looking forward to enjoying more of your bird shots! ๐Ÿ˜Š

      • You are so welcome and I will look forward to see what birds you share in the future. I love men’s golf and I dream of going to St. Andrews for a major. “The Players” is exciting and it has been a few years since we have gone. I got to enjoy a Mother’s Day brunch in the clubhouse one year on the last day of the tournament. It was quite awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚
