It’s not been easy for this Christmas to come into focus. That this year is different is an understatement. When something that’s traditional suddenly changes, it’s understandable that our psyche takes a while to catch up.
I have tried to maintain tradition, playing Christmas songs and putting up lights and Christmas ornaments. I began to see and appreciate them in a different light.
“Some Christmas tree ornaments do more than glitter and glow, they represent a gift of love given a long time ago.”
– Tom Baker
I am reminded that this Christmas is not in isolation of Christmases past. We may be meeting via Zoom instead of sharing a Christmas dinner, or sending long-distance tidings instead of exchanging hugs and gifts, but we are celebrating it with the same people we love. And we are celebrating it for the same reason and the joy that comes with it.
It’s beginning, finally, to look a lot like Christmas.
May you find meaning and joy this holiday season too.
