The Playground is Open Again

68D49BFA-6D8F-4DE7-B08A-83ECF07462F4 The golf course  was closed at the beginning of the lockdown around five months ago. It reopened for about a month, but would occasionally close for disinfection. I have stayed away from it.

It closed again two seeks ago due to the re-tightened community quarantine.

Yesterday I was told that it will open again today.

This “on again-off again” kind of situation will be here for a while. Add tighter precautions, like wearing of masks while playing, no sharing of carts, no lockers/showers. I have used a golf course as an example but it is true for amusement parks, movie theatres, shopping malls, gyms, sports stadiums, not to mention resorts and hotels where people used to go for a break.

The true object of all human life is play. Earth is a task garden; heaven is a playground
– G.K. Chesterton

Everyone needs time for oneself. Even a break from being isolated.

There’s some solace in remembering the good times, and there’s always that happy thought of one day going back. Things won’t ever be the same, but at least there’s something to look forward to — that everyone, young and old, will go back to their playgrounds without fear.

  1. We have opened the playgrounds here recently. The golf courses opened back in June at the same time as riding facilities. Golf has social distancing restrictions and a limit on people in golf carts But the idea is that golf is an outdoor sport so it should be ok. In September schools will open after being closed since March. Many parents are nervous about this.
