When There’s No Path to Your Goal Can You Grow Wings?

bm_1594.jpg
(At the Blue Mountains near Sydney, Australia.)

You’re staring at it, but there’s no path.

Can you grow wings? Fly over the ravine and get right to the mountaintop?

“If God had meant us to fly he’d have given us wings.”
– Chinese proverb

Yeah, no wings, but we got will and brains.

Will to make our own path. Brains to know when it is time to look for another goal.

Go Placidly Amid the Noise and Haste

“And remember what peace there may be in silence…”

ipil13

As the year comes to a close, we often reflect and take a look at the past as well as the future.

Life is a journey, our path not always straight. This has been a year of surprises. Many of them were like flowers that bloomed by the footpath, some were like rivers we had to cross, and others were like a sudden downpour that invited us to dance instead of dampening our spirits.

Yes, life is a spiritual journey too, and I hope yours has been meaningful too.

And we keep moving forward.

I have read this poem from long ago, but every time a surprise comes along the path of life, it always takes a new meaning.

May your path be always filled with pleasant surprises…

Desiderata (excerpts)

“Go placidly amid the noise and haste
And remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself…

Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass…

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness…

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul…

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.”

How Close Can You Get to a Rainbow?

IMG_0857.JPG

This morning was the frst time I saw a rainbow end-to-end. And it was so near that it seemed to point out exactly where to find two pots of gold!

It got me wondering: how close can you get to a rainbow? Can you touch it?

According to science you can never really go near and touch it. Sunshine and rain are what make a rainbow, and it can only be seen when viewed at a certain angle. It’s an optical illusion, chasing it is futile.

One can think of metaphors about rainbows and happiness, and their ephemeral nature. But to me a rainbow is always a beautiful sight, one that will continue to produce a sense of wonder.

“Where does the rainbow end,
in your soul or on the horizon?”
― Pablo Neruda

I like coming to this place to relax and re-energize, and today I got a great bonus!
